Astronomy Links:
- Galway Astronomy Club - The local astronomy club. Home of the Galway Astronomy Fest. A long running and very active club which meets once a month, organises activities, trips and outreach.
- Astronomy.com – a website run by Astronomy magazine. The excellent forums are free but much of the other content is for subscribers or newsstand buyers.
- CloudyNights– simply the best astronomy resource on the web. Full of articles, advice, reviews and excellent forums. Great for novice or enthusiast alike
- Astromart – if you are looking for second hand astro equipment check this site out.
UK astro buy and sell – like a british version of astromart.
- eBay – still the best place to get second hand equipment. Beware purchasing scopes here though – make sure they are by a reputable brand as probably 80% of scopes on offer here are junk.
- BBC Sky at Night – the site of the world's longest running astronomy program, hosted by sir patrick moore. Episodes may be watched in Real Video format.
- Nexstar site– user site dedicated to Celestron system.
- Celestron AS Yahoo group – another excellent Celestron user resource
- Andy's Shotglass - a site with great tutorials hosted by an amateur astronomer in the US
- Pete's Drift Alignment Tutorial - simply the best tutorial on drift alignment I have seen. Believe me, I have seen and been confused by many many articles on this subject. This articles makes it easy.
Photography Links:
- Ebay photography
- Luminous landscape– a fantastic site with plenty of articles and tutorials.
- Jessops– simply the best photography webstore in europe. Great prices, an incredible catalogue of items and excellent customer support.
- Digital Photography Review - simply the best resource for news and reviews on all decent photography equipment on the market.
- DIMA - Digital Imaging Marketing Association web site. The organisation who hold the annual DIMA awards.
- Steves Digicams - very similar to DPReview and almost as good.
- Photography Tips - need I say more?
- The Nocturnes - specializes in nocturnal imaging.
- Digibird - for those of you who want to get into bird photography
Computer and Software Links:
- DevShed - great resource for all things Open Source
- MSDN - Indespensible resource for all Windows developers
- OSCommerce - A great open source project that has released a platform for developer webshops. Used by more than 6000 stores worldwide.
- Apache Friends
- MySQL.Com - Homepage of the popular, powerful and free DBMS
- PHP.NET - Homepage of the popular hypertext preprocessor
- Apache org - homepage for the popular and excellent Apache web server
- Debian - Excellent server distro
- Ubuntu - Excellent Linux distro. Debian supercharged for desktop use.
- SUSE - Homepage for another powerful Linux distribution. It's is both user friendly and very powerful. I have had 9.0, 9.1, 9.2 and 10.0 installed on my system. It just gets better with each release. If you are into multimedia stuff you will need to install this separately. Suse is more geared towards running on a server.
- Macromedia - homepage for the developers of Dreamweaver, Flash, et al.
- Gimp - Amazingly powerful and free image editor
- 4 Guys from Rolla - great resource for ASP developers
- PHPMyAdmin - essential resource if you do LAMP stuff
